Lately

So I heard this delightful, whimsical song this morning called Love, Save the Empty. It's by Erin McCarley, and it was featured in the rom-com He's Just Not That Into You. The piano in this song is terrific and the chorus soars. All very female singer-songwriter but in a good way. Check it out!

I also heard the 90's hit I Love You Always Forever by Donna Lewis today. It's such a sweet song.

In My Dreams I Feel Like We Are Forty Stories Tall...

Girls Aloud have released their new video for their third single off Out of Control, the epic Untouchable. Untouchable is an electro pop smorgasboard lasting over six minutes. The radio edit is shorter sadly. Anyway, the new video is full of fierce poses and the girls floating in pods in space until they come crashing down to earth. The images go well with the song, but I wanted more plot which many Girls Aloud videos lack. Sarah is sporting a very Lady GaGa-esque outfit though. That's a plus. All the girls look fantastic in their black leather sexy outfits. A little more plot next time girls. Good song though. "It's only real when you're not around..."

The Age of Dissonance

As soon as I heard the plucking strings, I knew this song was familar. Then it all came back: this song was in Marie Antoinette, the decadent and visually eye-popping Sofia Coppola movie. The soundtrack to this movie is amazing. The song in question here is Hong Kong Garden by Siouxsie and the Banshees. It perfectly suited the opening to Gossip Girl's Age of Innocence-themed episode: there were lace gloves and fancy dresses. Well done, Gossip Girl. Clever and delicious and ridiculous per usual.

Hilarity

Kristen Wiig has created another hilarious character to add to her repetoire: Gilly, a demented elementary school student. Genius.

New SNL cast member Michaela Watkins made a memorable appearance on Weekend Update a few weeks ago as a gossip blogger commenting on the Oscars. Bitch Pleeze!

Made My Day

The Saturdays performed their new single Just Can't Get Enough (cover of the Depeche Mode classic) over the weekend on a British music show called Sound. It was a really energetic and fun performance. The choregraphy is bouncy and cute. They are also wearing modern and chic outfits (love the splashes of color). Great camerawork too. Very intimate. Awesome!

Yes!

Kat Deluna, of Whine Up fame, has two songs featured in the cute and entertaining Confessions of a Shopaholic. Unstoppable is kind of a mess albeit a mess with a killer Lil' Wayne part, but Calling You is positively fantastic. It's upbeat and very of-the-moment. RedOne of Just Dance fame totally did the production (he did most of Kat's debut album including Whine Up and Run the Show). I love his hard-hitting beats. The chorus is a monster. Pop brilliance.
